To educate our community, we have designed our TraumaTALKS program to provide an overview of childhood trauma, helping audiences understand the science behind the feelings and its signs and symptoms. Audiences will also learn why it’s critical to help abused children heal from trauma and how they can play a role in changing a child’s life.
TraumaTALKS cover a wide range of information, including:
- The special needs of abused children and how to care for them.
- Research data that shows how trauma alters children’s brains.
- How to recognize the dangers and self-destructive patterns in traumatized children who are not treated.
TraumaTALKS for the community are offered in public and private settings and are given by Chester Street Foundation’s Founder and CEO, Shawn Alex Nemeth (a trauma survivor), along with other clinicians and facilitators. In addition to sharing his personal story, Shawn may also sign copies of his book, Thorns of Chester Street, for people who make donations to the Chester Street Foundation.
